Welcome Back Beholder!
A BIG "Winning Bet!"

Two weeks ago I read that multiple Grade 1 winning Beholder was slated to make her 2016 debut today in Santa Anita's Grade 3 Adoration Stakes.  I knew she would be a prohibitive favorite, but she would be a near certain winner, almost a "free money" give away and I just enjoy watching her run.  As announcer Trevor Denman called it, she's "poetry in motion."  Last year she'd made her debut in the Santa Lucia Stakes and dominated, then come back to right roughshod in the Grade 3 Adoration.  After that she won two Grade 1 events over mismatched fillies and mares, then took on the older male handicap stars in the Grade 1 Pacific Classic at Del Mar.  She destroyed the field without being asked for her best yet again.  She was then shipped to Keeneland for a much anticipated showdown with Triple Crown hero American Pharoah.  But she spiked a fever and scratched from the race late in the week.  This year a slight training issue kept her from running earlier, but the word on her training was that she'd been working lights out and would come back as good as ever today.  I knew she'd be a miniscule price, but still I was in for a BET of the DAY $50 investment.  She rated off the pace and then effortlessly blew by to win drawing off.  What was so amazing, watch the video below, is that from the top of the stretch home the other jockeys are riding for all they are worth while Hall of Fame rider Gary Stevens is motionless on Beholder.  And still she draws away, distancing herself with each and every stride.

The Grade 3 Adoration Stakes

The BEST BET of the Weekend!
So, if you recall from Saturday's play on Tepin, I indicated that I had a little something up my sleeve.  Here it is.  Last Tuesday I received the letter below from Xpressbet indicating that they wanted to offer me a reward if I would up my membership.  I was pretty sure that I had already signed on for the "premium" account, but the letter said to bring it to Gulfstream and they would reward me.  On Friday, Oaks Day, I took the letter to the Xpressbet desk and offered it to the lady.  I explained that I thought I already had this level of account.  She pulled up my account and gave it a puzzled look.  She turned to me and said, you DO have this account level, but because you got the letter I can offer you a $100 reward.  I said sure, how does this work.  She explained that if I bet $100 in the next thirty days they would provide me with a $100 reward.  So the process would be if I made a $100 bet (or combination of bets) and lost, I'd be reimbursed the $100 - a can't lose proposition.  But if I make the bet and WIN, then I get a $100 payoff as a reward!  I told the lady it would be no problem making the $100 bet, and immediately knew I'd split the play into two $50 bets - one on Tepin and one on Beholder.......

So, with a win in both races I was able to effectively enhance the odds on these two superstars.  By using the $100 in "bonus awards" I had bet a combined $100 of my bankroll on the two runners and would collect $297.50.  That translates to odds of nearly 2/1.  It's as though - from a payout standpoint - I'd bet $50 to win on Tepin at actual odds of 1/5, but got paid at 2/1; and then bet $50 on Beholder at actual odds of 1/9 and again got back nearly 2/1 odds!  This may not seem like much the added $100 in winnings will certainly add to my monthly and seasonal ROI!.  WHOOOO HOOOOO, thanks Xpressbet!
